A few days ago, I think the 9th, was the 11th anniversary of my blog. I realized this a few days prior when I started getting tired of the gold background of the page. It has been a while since I did a refresh of the page, so I wanted to do that on the anniversary.... then I forgot. I remembered a couple days later, and then I hated all the options. To be honest, I could at this point do a "good enough" and be done with it. However I don't think I want to. I talked to a friend and the current outcome is what we decided was the best, at least for now. So as I start to mess around with the page I thought I'd do a post. I don't know how much I'll change, I like the layout for the most part, it was just the background that bugged me. I think the current look is good, but I need a more recent photo of my display, but to be honest I haven't displayed anything this year. I'm hoping in a few weeks I'll have it looking nice again and I will create the final background. When I do, I'll make a post showing off all the pieces on display (my friend mentioned he liked the background, but it was tough to see what was behind the actual body of the blog. Which my solution was just photo everything and discuss it. That will be in a few weeks though.
In the meantime, I want to make a post a bit because I changed a few things that aren't noticeable on the surface but because of that I need to adjust uploading photos and such. I don't really have a blog planned, so I figured I would dive into my hard drive and I have a folder called..... BLOG FOLDER! I laugh everytime I see it because in addition to all the custom cards I created, I saved a few other things from the past I showed on here. I also have a few other folders within it of actual cards. Cards I've been meaning to show off for.... 2... add 2 more.... um.... EIGHT YEARS! That's right I bought some cards online 8 years ago, probably the largest online order of cards I ever did (yet not too costly) and I never showed them off. I'm not even sure of the whereabouts of the cards themselves now. Anyways, I also looked in other folders throughout my hard drive and found random stuff to post.
So today is a random lot of stuff that is partly to show off stuff and to test how it will look on the blog. We will begin with cards surprisingly.
I miss getting the SI Kids magazine, mainly for the cards. I have no idea what I did with these if I decided to separate them (like I normally did) or kept them intact. At any rate, I either never showed them on here or I did and never deleted the file. Another option was that I did show them and kept them to scan for the Trading Card Database and never did. I didn't scan the back so I don't know. Either way this was a solid group of players. I'm not sure when I last got SI Kids, but while cleaning recently I did find I had a few whole sheets and I was very happy and surprised to see that on of the last cards I got was Caitlyn Clark. I don't know the value of it, but it is pretty cool that I always considered maybe getting one of her cards and then realizing I already had one. So... go me!
One of the things I have a hard time doing on the Chromebook is more or less the routine I use to do on my older computers. Chrome is good in many ways and I have finally come around with it, but I still have trouble editing and all kinds of other stuff I routinely did on my Windows computers. That said, one thing I have really liked on the Chromebook is how easy I can screen capture stuff and can cast to the TV (which I may or may not have needed the Chromecast but I still use it often enough to be happy with it).
Last Thanksgiving I was watching a playlist I made of stuff related to Thanksgiving. In years past I would make a Thanksgiving and a Christmas playlist for myself and a friend with a random mix of stuff. I don't think I'll do a Thanksgiving one this year, but maybe I'll do a Christmas one. Anyways, while watching a 1992 NBC News at Sunrise broadcast I saw this screenshot above. I was really confused. Why is Joe Montana wearing an Eagles helmet? I tried to think back to 1992 (because sure I can't remember who played in the last NBA Finals but I can remember 1992 :eyeroll:), and I was pretty sure Montana was injured. So my first thought was maybe it was a scrimmage, but I still don't think if injured or healthy Montana would be taking reps as the rival QB which the only goal would be to help the defense. I'm still confused. I never seen anything similar online, so it is a nice nugget to find. I did look it up and the 49ers did play the Eagles that weekend (and whatever Montana did to help the defense must have worked- 20-14 49ers was the final). But when I screenshot this to show a friend unlike most screenshots, I kept it because its so odd and unique.
I found this and it brought back memories. I think this was around 2011 and I was messing around on MS Paint (yes I never graduated to Photoshop, but I still miss Paint as the Chromebook doesn't have it). I can't remember if I did this for a blog or for a Twitter account (for a while I had multiple Twitter accounts, and I'm not sure why I would do that today). It isn't my finest work, but I was happy with how it turned out, though if making it today I probably would have scrapped it just because I see so many things I would want to change on it. But its on my hard drive and I figured I would show it.
Speaking of Mizzou, I found a scan of a ticket stub of the first Mizzou basketball game I attended.
I remember parts of the game and I had a lot of fun at it. I still have most of my football tickets from games I went to also and also a couple from games I didn't attend. Maybe one day I will show those off. My friend asked me how many blogs I plan on doing. I figure if I take the time to actually change the background I still have some desire to post, and I thought a bit. I don't like making goals on number of posts, but I think I plan on doing at least 2 a month. One will be my stuff I got type stuff that everyone knows from the blog, and the second will be my more recent catalog style posts, or maybe custom cards (if I get back into it), or just hard drive cleaning. I figure that gives me a chance to still show stuff and if I have nothing to show I can still have other options. I may post more, but that's my idea. I probably won't implement that until next month, so I might even have another post this month who knows. I might even throw in a third one a month if I ever want to do my ranting and raving.
I got these maybe 10 years ago from a kickstarter or some sort of online fundraiser. Missouri Is Awesome was a guy I think near Springfield and I'm not sure what exactly his goal was, but if you donated I think you got some swag. I get a cheap one and got the patch and a keychain I think and maybe a few other things. I still have them somewhere, but I also scanned them and they were on the hard drive. At this point I wanted to test different size scans/photos to see how they look. These are different sizes, so we'll see when I preview it later.
Fall is almost upon us and that means the Fall TV lineup! This came as an insert to a sports magazine. I think I trashed the magazine (and maybe this too) but not before I scanned this. I have a feeling I watched that Chiefs game on September 16th but have no memory of it. I was still living on the farm, so my dad probably watched Monday Night Football each Monday. I like looking at this because I am reminded of shows I use to watch like Home Improvement and Step By Step (and to some extent The Commish), others that I may watch today (FBI: The Untold Stories), and some I have ZERO MEMORY of. Bird & Katt is one such show. I know a lot of TV shows, even if I never watched them, I remember reading about them in TV Guide, but I don't remember this show. Maybe because I was 9 years old? Maybe, but I vaguely remember Good & Evil and Homefront. Even Grownups sounds familiar, but a unique name like Bird & Katt surely would have stuck in my mind. I guess not.
A couple other things I found were screenshots of tweets I made that made the news. I also was told I had a tweet that showed up on NBC's page once for Celebrity Apprentice. I never found it but oh well, I'm not upset about that. What's funny is the ESPN tweet I noticed gained traction and tried to figure out why. I can't remember if ESPN tagged me or not but I found it fairly quickly. The CBS Boston one, I had no clue about. In fact I think I screenshotted this one a couple months after it happened. In a moment I'm not proud of, I Googled myself (OH THE SHAME!) and this was one of the results. I was confused and checked it out. Looking back its kind of funny to see a tweet get used, but at the same time I wish I would be tagged when they do just so I can see it. Oh well, I kept these on my hard drive too. My tweets since 2017 haven't been newsworthy though it could be because I don't post as much.
A couple small sheets of paper flyers for a couple concerts I went to. While Static X would have been cool to see, SR-71, Dexter Freebish, and Diffuser was AWESOME! It was a great concert and glad I went. The Follow concert was great too, and I loved seeing them play live, but what I remember most about that show was how cold Hazel Kinder had that theater. It was so cold that the next day I came down with the flu. My nephews were celebrating their birthday (they were born 1 day apart but in two different year.... its early my brain ain't working right), and they were trying to hit a pinata. It took like 20 minutes, and finally as it was like abnormally warm for that weekend like 60 or 70, I have a heavy blanket wrapped around me. I used one hand to hold onto the blanket, the other to smash that pinata. Once it broke and the candy came out, I went back inside and went to sleep. Good times. Another post should be concert tickets. I'm not sure I still have them all, but I do have a spreadsheet of all the concerts I attended, same with sporting events, and many other things. So I do have future posts to do I guess.
Why did I keep an online photo of Macho Man Randy Savage on my hard drive? I really have no idea, but he looks deep in thought and I really like the photo. Photo shoot or not, he looks so calm, unlike his stage persona. While I have many thoughts on the passing of Hulk Hogan, some good and some bad, I was heartbroken when I heard Macho Man passed away.
I have one more photo/scan/drawing and its something I doodled a good 20 years ago. I'm not the most proficient artist, but this one was fun to find a couple hours ago and thought I'd include it.
I have no idea why I drew it, or what I was even trying to do. Ar those glasses or really big eyelids? Is that a nose that attaches to the mouth? Is that supposed to be me? That last one I can say likely not. At that time I didn't have a goatee or a soul patch as facial hair wasn't allowed at Wendy's. My hair also didn't look like that. I must advise against staring at it longer than a few seconds because it gets even creepier. I never claimed to be an artist, but I did find a couple sketching I did, maybe one day I'll show another.
So I guess I'll wrap things up there. I wanted to check out dimensions for the blog and see how I can mess with them and I'll soon see what I need to fix if anything. I did increase the size of the body of the blog and the size of the right panel. I even (somehow) managed to widen the title a bit at the top. I've thought about changing that but that might be the one thing that stays for now. For no other reason than I like the font and not sure where or what it is. I've thought about maybe renaming the blog to reflect how I don't talk about cards anymore, but I don't think I will. Part of the name is second generation collector, and like my dad did, I collect a wide array of items, and much like my dad his interests would come and go. So on that front I'll keep the name. Maybe I'll just try to talk about cards a bit more. Time will tell. So until next time, thanks everyone for reading and I hope you have a great week. As for me, I'll probably work on the blog some, and mess around with my hard drive a bit more. I made a bit of progress recently and hope to ride the wave and clean it up a bit more. Thank for reading everyone!

I love collection SI for Kids cards too. Congratulations on landing the Caitlin Clark. That things is worth over $100 easily. I really like the updated background image too. Cool to see your socks and figures on display.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I figured it was worth a few bucks but not that much. I might have to look into that.
DeleteThanks, I used 3-4 different pictures but none of them seemed to work as well as this one. I would keep it, but it is from Christmas and I'l like to have something that is not holiday related (though it is a bit funny to see Harry and Marv spying on my readers). Its funny to think I took this photo when my sock display was in its infancy.
If she ends up having the career we all think she's going to have... it's probably worth sitting on. It was released a full year before her pack issued rookie cards.
