Wrestling with Walmart

A couple months ago the big rage was buying packs of baseball cards from Walmart's website.  On my last post I mentioned I ended up joining in on the craze but with a twist.  Instead of baseball cards, I bought some wrestling cards and racing.  Today I thought I'd show the wrestling packs I ended up with.  Since its been a while I believe it was supposed to be 30 packs for either 15 or 20 bucks.  Let's see how I did.

So the majority of these packs came in plastic clamshell packaging, with only the Heritage cards being the outlier.

So after sorting, this is what I came up with.  Uh-oh, a lot of Rumble packs and Ultimate Rivals.  I wasn't a fan of the Ultimate Rivals cards, so from the start I was a little concerned.  The stack of packs on the left is some of the racing I'll show at a later date.  So what was the pack breakdown?  Here it is as I made a list for the TCDB so others could get an idea.

5- 2015 Topps WWE Heritage (3 cards per pack)
1- 2008 Topps WWE Heritage III Chrome (5 cards per pack)
1- 2007 Topps WWE Heritage II Chrome (5 cards per pack)
1- 2009 Topps WWE Heritage IV (5 cards + 1 stick sealed gum)
2- 2010 Topps WWE (7 cards per pack)
1- 2008 Tristar TNA Impact (5 cards per pack)
2- 2007 Topps Action WWE (7 cards per pack)
1- 2010 Topps WWE Dog Tags Pyrotechno (1 dog tag + 1 card)
6- 2008 Topps WWE Ultimate Rivals (7 cards per pack)
1- 2008 Topps WWE Ultimate Rivals (Bonus Pack) (4 cards)
1- 2010 Topps WWE Slam Attax Mayhem (8 cards + instructions)
1- 2010 Topps WWE Slam Attax (8 cards + checklist)
7- 2010 Topps WWE Rumble Pack (6 cards per pack)

The Heritage packs were what kept my interest, so at worst, it wasn't a total bust as I'd get some value, but would the others make up the rest of the value?  Let's look.

Slam Attax doesn't interest me, so unless I got someone I really liked, I didn't care.  Aside from Eli Cottonwood, which I didn't see much of him, and the PPV card, I like the rest.  Ted Dibiase card I liked because he got his training from Harley Race and I probably had a chance to see him before he made it to WWE.  The foil Teddy Long card is my favorite though.  Teddy is going to be at a WLW show next month I think.  WLW is Harley Race's federation.  Mr. Race hasn't been doing well lately, so I hope for a speedy recovery. I guess I'll rate the packs with a +/- rating.  This gets a + just because I like more of them than not.

I like these Attax cards much better, but could have done without the Ring Bell card.  Another pretty good pack actually happy I got a Paul Burchill card, I thought WWE could have done more with him.  My favorite in this pack is Bam Bam Bigelow with Eve being a pretty distant second.  This pack gets a +.

I was a little excited to open this, as I had some of these before.  Once I opened it though was a bit disappointed.  Nothing against Yoshi Tatsu, but I think years ago when these came out, I actually had this one.  Plus, it would have been nice to get a bigger name.  I have to rate this a -.

I actually liked this TNA Impact set, and if I'm not mistaken, may be close to finishing it.  That said, I wasn't a fan of this pack.  I hated the Ink cards, and was never a fan of Homicide.  Brother Ray was okay, but I'm not his biggest fan.  So Jay Lethal was the only card I really liked in this pack and even the photo isn't the best.  But hey, at least its an action card.  Too bad we couldn't see who he was delivering the elbow drop to. This pack gets a -.

I remember these cards, but wasn't too big on them.  I will say before Topps started to make their base sets look like their baseball cards, they had some unique designs, for better or worse.  None of these cards do much for me aside from The Boogeyman card.  He's coming to get you!  At least these cards do provide action.  Its pretty close, but I give this a -.

Here was another pack.  Still not doing anything for me, but I do like these cards just a bit more.  Glad to get a Randy Orton and HBK cards.  Just because I don't hate them as much I'll be nice and give this a + rating.

Now we come to Ultimate Rivals.  These don't look like the ones I remember, but still not a fan of them too much. I don't really remember a lot of these feuds or rivals but maybe I'm just forgetting.  Kane and Undertaker and Cena and Edge stand out though.  Batista and Triple H finished their rivalry earlier this year at Wrestlemania.  CM Punk did not like Elijah Burke so that was an interesting card.  Since I know I'll hate the other Rivals cards, and since these are much better, I'll give this a +.

The reason I didn't care for these cards was the bordering.  I like the brick wall concept, but it doesn't work on just the bottom part of the card on two corners.  That said, pulling two Sgt. Slaughter cards in the same pack wasn't a plus either.  Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair had a great rivalry though, so that's a positive.  Overall though I give this a -.  Btw, nice to see Sgt. Slaughter, Pat Patterson, and Ric Flair on the Raw Reunion episode on Monday along with many other past greats.  Not sure why they didn't book Orton though.

This pack had doubles and the ones that weren't don't appeal to me.  I don't think I ever needed a Matt Striker card.  The motion card at the bottom though changes things.  I can't be negative pulling a card like that, so this somehow gets a + rating.

This pack gets a + rating for no other reason than Terry Funk.  Its crazy to think I've met both Terry Funk and Mick Foley and they are on the same card.  In fact I believe they were wearing almost the same clothes.  Another plus for this pack is the Jericho and Stephanie card.  While I'm not as big of a fan of Jericho in recent years, I loved them two going back and forth. I'm getting sad seeing all these Umaga cards.  I really like him and miss him.

Speaking of missing him, I miss Brian Pillman so much.  I miss him more than most people miss Eddie Guerrero (which I also miss). This pack has some good rivals on it aside from Kelly Kelly and Layla and maybe Cody and Holly.  Though it had another motion card so combining that with the Pillman/Austin card, this gets a huge +.

I like how this pack has some older rivalries like HBK and Bulldog (which I never like their rivalry because HBK always got the upper hand), and even an old WCW feud between Ron Simmons and Vader.  Another Bam Bam card, and happy to get any card with Maria on it so this pack gets a +.

Now its time for Rumble packs.  Targeted towards kids, I'm not the right demographic, but I'll be honest, if I was a kid, I'D LOVE THESE!  It reminds me of the old Topps Kids cards.  I didn't expect much from these, but with as many packs as I got, I could see myself building this set at some point.

This pack is definitely a +.

I really like the Shawn Michaels card. The cartoon cards reminds me of the newer Triple Play cards so I have no use for them, but again, I'm not the target audience.  Another +.

I should point out that even though I'm giving a lot of pluses, that doesn't mean overall it will be a plus.

After opening more than a couple of these, the coolness does seem to fade and you really wish better packs were included.  I have to give - on each of these though the first one with the Edge popout is pretty cool.

A couple more packs and I'm glad I'm done opening these.  I do like the Evan Bourne card on the bottom scan.  I have to give that pack a +.

Forgot I had another Ultimate Rivals pack I didn't show.  This one is a -, but the Mr. Kennedy card is really cool.

Time for the exciting stuff, Heritage!  Even though I'm not a fan of Chrome on any cards, I'm still excited to see what I get.  This pack is pretty solid.  Never disappointed to get a Dusty Rhodes card, nor an Undertaker.  I always liked Helms since I first saw him in WCW as a member of 3 Count, so that was a positive.  Overall, despite being a Chrome pack, this gets a +.

Another Chrome pack, but I'm not liking this one too much.  Not mad I got a Matt Hardy or Kane card, but the starpower isn't there, plus I don't care for the design on Chrome.  I wasn't too big on the design in the first place.  This gets a -.

2010 Topps wasn't a bad set, but I thought it could have been better.  My favorite card in this pack is the USA card of Jack Swagger.  I like The All-American American, and once his MMA career ends, wouldn't be mad to see him come back to wrestling.  Also cool to get the CM Punk card, as I liked him.  The Vance Archer card is interesting since I'm not sure how many cards he actually got.  So overall this pack is a +.

A Legends hot pack!  First and foremost, this pack gets a + just because I pulled a Harley Race card.  Besides that, I also got cards of Doink and the Iron Sheik.  How can I be upset?  The History of Regal card is cool as well as the Big Show.  Also I remember the Dude Busters, so I was not disappointed at all with this pack.  Dare I say, the best pack I opened.  +++++.

I had to laugh quite a bit when I opened this pack.  If it wasn't for the chuckle I might have gave this a minus.  However, the stick of gum on top of the Roddy Piper card makes this a +, ensuring that he never runs out of bubble gum while he's kicking ass.  The Batista magnet was also a plus, as it reminded me that I pulled a few of those cards when these came out, but don't think I ever got the Batista.  Its crazy to think that Zack Ryder is still in WWE after all these years, but I'm glad I got a card of him too.

One of the Heritage packs only had 3 cards, I guess a Dollar Tree pack?  I can't be mad at another Harley Race card as well as maybe my first Rocky Johnson card.  Also good to have a Bray Wyatt card.  Despite only being 3 cards, this gets a + as well.

Actually, maybe more of the packs had 3 cards in them.  Its been a while and I forgot.  If this was two packs or one, they still get a - vote.  I like Christian, but otherwise unless I'm set building, I didn't need any of the other cards.  Nice to get another Legend though even if it is Bob Orton.

Another Bam Bam Bigelow card? YES!  Also happy to get a Natalya card.  She is really hot and cold in WWE anymore, but I hope she beats Becky Lynch at Summerslam.  I really need to sort all my wrestling cards I have, not just these, but ALL and see how close I am on this set.  Maybe I'll work on it at some time.  I still have some COMC credit, but wrestling cards on there aren't too cheap.

So all in all, it was really fun opening packs, but overall I was left a little disappointed.  Don't get me wrong, I think it was a great value, I mean it was 50 cents or so a pack, and combine that with the fact I used gift cards for them, I'm not out anything.  I would recommend this to people that want to build a wrestling collection, or fans with kids that enjoy wrestling.  You can see their enjoyment and also teach them about some of the Legends.  I remember playing wrestling video games with my nephews and telling them all about the Legends on there.  After a while, they were using Kamala to beat up John Cena.  Good times.

If you're wondering if I would purchase this again in the future, the answer is maybe.  It wouldn't be until I finished organizing my wrestling collection I have now and see what I could gain from getting more cards like these.  Maybe if I waited a year or so, some newer packs would be included and that would help build those sets.  However I'm in no rush to buy more of these.

So that wraps it up for today, I had fun writing about this and hope to do the racing one soon.  Soon might be a month, but it should be one of my next blogs.  Thanks everyone for reading and have a great day.

All Over The Place

Summer is here, and just last night I found a folder from 2 years ago that has probably a week's worth of posts in them.  So there's that, however that won't be what I mention today.  This is a bit of a random post but it does include cards, and a few other things.  All of which I've acquired in the last few months.

Let's dig in.

While not being too active on here, I still visit the Trading Card Database daily.  One of the forum postings has a fellow member having a contest.  Basically whenever the Phillies win a series the first five to respond to that post get 20 cards off his for trade/sale list.  I'm usually late to join in but a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get in.  He has a ton of cards on his list so I could have easily found 20 cards, but in this instance I was looking to fill in a few holes on my Royals wantlist.  I had a few mishaps with the database trade function, but it eventually worked itself out.  I wrote him apologizing for asking for so many George Brett cards, but they pretty much all were the last card I need to complete the team sets.  The checklist card though I might have been even happier to get because its not really a card I'd want to pay for, so it was nice to get.  Those 1991 Score cards I bet I have, but I tend to mess up a lot adding cards to my wantlist, but after getting them, they weren't in my box of Royals cards, so I guess I've only seen them online or remember having them the first time I was collecting.

Like I said, I was filling want list holes, so I got some Bo Jackson I didn't have and even a few newer ones.  The newer ones I don't think I'm close to finishing but I did want a few newer cards.  Glad I got the Jake Kalish card since I've been hearing good things about him, but to be honest, I haven't kept up too much on minor league happening like I have in years past.  I haven't even listened to a minor league game on TuneIn since the first week.  Maybe I'll get back to that soon.

So I had a couple more cards to pick, and there were plenty of Royals cards to pick.  However, I decided to see what else he had to see if there might be a hard to find card I've wanted, or maybe just something I've never seen before.  I was quite happy to find these last two.

Well, I forgot about the McRae, which may or may not finish that set.  However the two racing ones I was happy to find.  One day growing up I went with my dad and grandma to a nearby town to do some shopping which wasn't too unusual.  However at the local Western Auto store they had two race cars on display.  One was the Darrell Waltrip 17 NASCAR which is similar to the one on this card.  The other was the NHRA car driven by Al Hofmann.  I've looked for cards featuring Waltrip's car before but never got too far into it.  I never even looked for cards of Hofmann knowing not many NHRA sets were made, but knew of a few.  Ideally I'd like to have a card with his car on it, but this works for now.

I might have another photo of both cars as well, but this was first one I found.  I was a huge NASCAR fan so seeing DW's car was awesome.  I was never into NHRA but did watch it at times, and this was the only time I saw any type of car from their series, so it was pretty cool.  Other NASCAR cars I've seen on display include Bobby Labonte's Interstate Batteries car and Sam Hornish's AAA car.  I have pictures of both which I'll post at another time.

So overall I was quite happy with not only winning, but the cards I got.  I hope it goes smoother next time if I win again, but might just let others win a few first.

The Bobby Labonte car I saw was actually during a festival in Joplin, MO called the Route 66 Music Festival.  One of the bands there was Lifehouse, however I didn't get to see them.  Maybe one day I'll write about that fun road trip with a good friend and my cousin.  A lot of great music and times.  A while back I was using the Wayback Archive to look up the Music Festival (it was the last one they held) and came across this photo of Jason Wade the lead singer of Lifehouse taken from the festival.  It was my first custom attempt in a long time and it shows, but it was still fun to mess around with.  Now I'm a bit anxious to write about it, hmm, maybe I could whip something up soon.

Anyways, that isn't the only custom card I've made recently and this next one is much better I think.

It's not perfect, but again, I haven't made custom cards in over a year.  These days while I still keep up on pro wrestling, I don't watch as much.  However one of my favorite female wrestlers these days is Kelly Klein.  She wrestles for Ring of Honor and was their woman's champion.  She might still be but I haven't watched in a while.  This isn't the first time she's thrown out the first pitch of a game, and I almost made a card last time.  This one I whipped up pretty quick and really like it.  If I ever did TTM autographs, I would consider printing this card to get signed.

Okay, so you may noticed my last blog was about stuff I found on a thrifting trip, and while I plan to do more, this was a standalone item I bought from my local second hand store and wanted to share.

For some odd reason I buy quite a few books.  I mean 10 for a quarter its hard to resist.  However, I usually don't read them.  I'm not sure why but I want to change that a bit.  When I saw this book (in the kids book section) I was quite excited.  I love the movie Field of Dreams and this is a book I've looked for as long as I can remember.  I've found another of W.P. Kinsella's books and started to read it, but honestly, I'm not a fan of his style of writing.  He has a very roundabout way of writing.  Which is funny since most of my blogs are like that, but I like reading more to the point stuff.

So I can gladly say I finished the book.  It took a while but I can say I read the book.  My thoughts on it?  Welp, without spoiling too much, I prefer the movie a lot more than the book.  Events in the book never happened in the movie, and a lot of stuff was different that didn't really need to be in it.  I think the movie was a little more tighter and wrapped everything up quite nicely.  Having said that, I won't ever read it again, but I'm glad I read it once.  I also don't want to discourage anyone from reading it because of what I thought.  Some may love it, it just wasn't for me.  It will stay in my collection though because I'm still very happy I found it.

So a couple more things to show off before I wrap things up.  Recently the big talk around blogs and twitter has been buying packs of cards off Walmart.com.  Mostly something like 50 packs of baseball cards for 20 or 30 bucks or whatever they are.  They sell out quick though.  One day I realized I had some gift cards saved up and figured I'd look.  No baseball cards.  So I looked at what else they had.  They had football, but I've been dumping a lot of them off to a friend, so that would have be pointless.  They had hockey, but I'm not a big fan of the sport.  Then I saw NASCAR and wrestling.  I was tempted.  I haven't bought either in a while and figured at worst I'd find at least a few cards I'd like.  I think it was like 30 packs for 15 bucks, or something similar.  So I added them to my cart and needed to get a couple other items for free shipping.  I bought them and once I finish cropping pictures and scanning more I'll blog about them.  It was fun to open and I might do it again.  Anyways since I needed a filler item, I bought a movie and then decided to get something that helps me survive every summer.

A two pack of fly swatter for a buck.  My sister laughed when I told her I bought them, but I'm glad I did.  These are metal handled ones and anymore all I ever see are the cheap plastic ones which break after one hit (sorry but I want them flies dead!).  I ended up getting 3 different shipments for all the items, the movies came second in a little package.  All the cards last in a medium sized box, and the fly swatter first, in this massive sized box.  I mean its a regular sized box, but it was funny all it had was 2 flyswatters in it.  We joked that the packaging cost more than the flyswatters and then mentioned if we ever needed more boxes, this might be the way to go.  Currently the box is used to store all the VHS tapes I have that I need to try to convert to DVD.

Speaking of the cards however, I got more packs than I was supposed to.  I got the right amount of wrestling, but I got like 4 extra packs of racing.  I'm not mad at it, just a bit confused.  However I also got two other packs of cards I guess they thought would go with racing, but I think its more non-sport to me.

I never had a desire for American Chopper cards, but when I saw these I hoped to get a card of Mikey.  Since they don't fit in either racing or wrestling I figured I'd show them off now.

To be honest, I'm not a big motorcycle guy and didn't watch the show much.  My dad did but I think he just liked Mikey and thought it was funny when Paul Sr. yelled at Jr. which was every 2 seconds.

Aside from the lone bike card in this pack, these don't do much for me.  I'm not against the set, I might even try to build it one day, but I just thought for a 50 card set there would be a bit more variety and more bikes shown.

This pack is so much better.  I like these cards.  This was why I thought about building the set.  I even like this Rolling Thunder card with Sr. on it.  It looks like I struck out on a card of Mikey, but I got a card of his bike, so that's something.

I saw the show came back but I've only see a few minutes of it.  I still have no desire of watching.

Anyways, that will wrap it up for today, maybe next time I'll delve into those wrestling or racing packs.  Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Savvy Loot I

So today marks I guess a new feature on here.  It really it just an extension of a regular series on here called Savvy Shopping, but it spawned from a realization a few months back.  I really wanted to do one of those subscription crates like Loot Crate or something, but I'm cheap.  I also am quite sure I wouldn't like everything I'd get in the crate so I never did.  My reasoning: Why pay 20 bucks or more for a box of stuff I don't know I'll like.  Plus, I'm cheap.  I do look at another bloggers subscription crate each month and sometimes really consider getting one, but usually the ones I really like sell out.  By the way if you have never checked out Dinosaur Dracula I highly recommend it for folks stuck in the 80's and 90's nostalgia like myself.

Anyways while taking photos of stuff I bought from my local second hand store, Savvy Seconds, one day I realized that I'm basically building a custom crate of stuff that I like on most trips anyways.  So not only am I getting a handful of items, but also spending much less.  I've been looking at thrift shop finds on reddit and my goodness am I glad I live in the Midwest.  They find stuff for 30 bucks I can find for 10.  They pay 5 bucks for used CD's where I won't even consider more than paying 2 (and that's if I REALLY want it and in KC or something.

So the concept is easy, whenever I get more than a couple items in one trip, I will call it Savvy Loot.  If its less than a few items I'll either post it as a combination as a regular Savvy Shopping post or cleaning up post.  If its something like 30 CD's I get (doubt I'd ever do that), it would also be a regular shopping post.  If I find trading cards, it will depend on how many how I will post them.  Today it will include them in the Loot post since I only got 10.  20 or more might get an individual post.

Enough Talk, let's start looking.... OH WAIT, Let me PAINT a cool graphic for this feature like I did for my Ranting and Raving feature that I hardly do since I never post.  Wait a minute...

Wow, that's not creative at all, but oh well, let's get on with it.  What to start with first.  Let's get the music out of the way.  I bought one CD.

I was a bit excited to find a David Gray CD, but I didn't recognize any of the songs.  I haven't listened to it yet, but this came out it 2014 it looks like so it was well past when I was listening to him.  However for 50 cents, its a good start.

Let's stick to music and find these rare gems from yesteryear.

At the price of 2 for a quarter, how could you pass it up.  Kids, these are called cassettes.  I mentioned to my mom that kids today have no idea what these are and in a few year won't know what CD's are.  She replied "I bet they never heard of 8 tracks either".  I had to remind her that 8 tracks were more or less obsolete by the time I was born, but she was right.  Anyways, I saw the Jeff Foxworthy cassette and was pretty happy.  Next to it was another one of his and I grabbed it.  Unfortunately that one contained a Roy Mercer album, and while I never listened to Mr. Mercer, I was in the mood for America's Favorite Redneck.  So I went looking for another cassette.  Not much different from the last time I looked, but I did find Mickey Mouse singing rap (with help from the likes of Tag Team and Color Me Badd no less).  I'm out a quarter and an hour if its total crap.  For comedic value though, I think it will be worth it.

Let's move on to things you can watch.  I passed on some DVD's this time since none caught my eye, but another relic kids today may not know (as judging from the React Channel on Youtube), VHS tapes!

Priced at 5 for 50 cents, if I find one that I have an interest in, I tried to find 4 others that are oddball or they don't have on DVD.  So basically no actual movies but more along the lines of  "some sucker will buy this randomly put together crap if we put it on VHS and try to sell it".  Jokes on them, I'd never pay full price, but a dime a piece, I'll give it a try.  Maybe I'll upload these to Youtube unless someone beats me to it.  Doubt I'll do it for Mr. Bill since SNL is a bit strict, but oh well.

Mr. Bill wasn't something I have memories of, but it was oddball enough to grab it.  The Twister one is a bit of an odd choice since there's been an outbreak of tornadoes around my neck of the woods lately, but no way you'll find it on DVD.  However I think it might be on Youtube.

WHAT THE??? I bought this because of the scary image of Ronald McDonald and no other reason.

That will haunt your dreams!  However it also reminds me of Rugrats animation, so now I'm intrigued.  If you are as well, this is on Youtube already, so no need to upload.  The positive/negative of finding these on Youtube is I didn't need to get them in the first place, but at 10 cents each, I'm not out much of anything.

Those were ones that were filler.  Most crates seem to have filler, but they also have killer!  So less filler, MORE KILLER!

Originally, the only reason I got 5 movies was because I saw The Mouse and the Motorcycle.  I'm very afraid of mice, but I loved watching this growing up.  I was happy to find it.  After finding 4 tapes I was really just ready to go, so while hurrying up, I stumbled on the California Raisins.  Even better is its still sealed with a vintage Walmart price tag on it.  HA HA! 7 Bucks!  More like 7 cents!

So lets look at the 50 cent or less table.

10 cent tin?  Sure.  Has a few marks on it, but its great to display at Christmas time and when not on display I can store stuff in it.  I think that's a good deal.  I did pass on a Twix tin, but it didn't have anything on it other than the logo.

So I did find some cards this time, and most are leftovers from the 10 cent stash they've had for a few month. But found a few new ones so I got 10 I thought I didn't have or would go into various collections.

The most iffy purchase were these two cards.  I have a ton of McMillian and Delpino cards from my Mizzou collection.  Surely I had these already.  Turns out I did... NOT!  I had another McMillian from the set but not that one.  So I was pleasantly surprised these weren't doubles.

I'm not sure if I have a Rich Gannon card, so its good to get one.  I've been working on sorting my collection and have had success so I'm getting better at finding out what I have (though my Mizzou stuff is really outdated, so time to upgrade).  The American Bowl card I've never seen and figured it would be a nice addition to the Chiefs cards I have.  It seems like an odd card though, almost like a LEGO creation snapped from above to make it look huge.

My goal wasn't to get a bunch of football cards, but here we are.  Hard to pass up some Hall of Famers.

and more Hall of Famers.  While I don't plan on making new PC's for football players, I will still get some Terry Bradshaw's that I like.  I liked this one.

Again, these were for the most part filler, I just wanted to get to 10.  So what was KILLER to me?

NASCAR Gatorade cards?  I never heard of these and was curious to find a huge stack of them.  After getting home I realized I could have got about 4 of the 10 or so cards but I only got these.  The others were tons of doubles of these and Ward Burton and maybe Bobby Labonte (forgot the other one).  Since I couldn't build the whole set, I'm glad I didn't get them.  I got the Gordon because while I was once a huge fan, I got tired of him winning all the time and found other drivers to root for.  But its still nice to have some Gordon cards, especially ones you don't see everyday.  The Rusty Wallace I bought to add to the Missouri collection- people born/lived/associated to Missouri (Mizzou is a more specific set, this is for everyone else).  If they had a Mike Wallace I would have gotten him or Kenny.  Think I might be working on that though.  At any rate, happy I got this card.  Too bad it wasn't earlier when he was still driving the black Miller Genuine Draft car, maybe one of my favorite car designs ever (even if it was basic).

So a nice loot crate, and a total of $2.35 I did much better than a $20 box that would maybe have more stuff brand new but not stuff I'd be interested in.  To top it off I also got a free item as well as I was leaving.  I didn't need it but hey, its free and maybe I'll find a use for it.

I covered the winner's name but thought this was pretty cool.  I was never artistically inclined so I never won one of these, but once did do a good tracing of Billy from Family Circus and I was proud of that.  I'm thinking I might remove the name on the bottom and display this on a shelf for my mom.  I mentioned to her she could put it on a shelf and on each side have a drawings from her grand daughters.  She liked that idea, and they are much more talented in drawing then I ever could be.

So overall I think I came out quite nice.  I also managed to write a second post this month and that is also nice.  I already have plans for a few more, one on a more serious note but need to gather a few things before I post that one.  I enjoy doing those, but more details later.  Anyways, thanks for reading and hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hanging Around

It's easy to blame the weather on me not wanting to do anything lately, so let's just say that.  While that is partially true, I have actually been doing a few things so I can't say I haven't done anything.  I have updated my Royals collection, which I already have to update again since I found a few more.  I've also started updating my other collections as well.  I don't collect too many other sports, so I think I'm up to date on what I have in hockey and basketball, and now working on football.  Once I'm done with that I'll work on my baseball PC's and my Mizzou stuff as well as actually work on my Missouri collection which might be a challenge.  The goal on that is having at least one card from every team that has called the state of Missouri home, as well as players who are from or went to school in Missouri (Mizzou stuff is separate though).  Maybe through that I'll get my long dormant other blog running again.  In the meantime, I have other stuff to work on as well, I guess like blogging.

Before I show off my stuff today I wanted to mention that sometime this soon I should be happy to show off a batch of cards I'll receive from COMC.  I don't usually mention stuff in advance like this, but recently COMC had a Spring Sale and along with it a few different contests.  I was lucky enough to win one of the contests and won a $50 credit to the site.  While I was super excited to win, it made me realize that I should sort my collection so I wouldn't buy cards I already had.  That was my biggest motivation.  I bought a couple cards during their sale but for now held off on purchases until I'm finished sorting.  I'm also still deciding if I should buy a lot of cheaper cards to fill out collections or buy a few higher priced cards I never thought I'd be able to get (even cards 10 bucks and up are cards I seriously didn't think I'd have a good chance of getting).  I think I'll probably do a mix of both, and already made a big purchase and pondering a couple others (cards I know I don't have).

In the meantime, I thought I'd show off cards I DO have and its from a box I showed off last time I blogged over a month ago.

I showed this photo last time, and I showed the baseball cards last time, which I already knew were in the box.  At two bucks though I was more intrigued with the old looking cardboard.  However as you saw in the last post I did well with the baseball cards including a Ken Griffey Jr. rookie, so box already paid for.

So what was the old cards?

Marked on checklist cards.  While that could be a downer, it really isn't.  Looking at those names and its appears these are 70's football cards.  Just imagine finding a box with 70's football for two bucks.  Maybe not all these will be checklists.

Hey, an unmarked Bears checklist, things are looking up!

Welp, on the outside this may seem disappointing, but at worst its cool to see some of these names.  Guys like Archie Manning, Roger Wehrli, Mel Gray... guys that would look nice in my football collection without seeking them out.

HEY!  Actual cards from the set!  ARCHIE MANNING!  Welp, between that and the Griffey, I think this box was well worth two dollars.  I'll be honest, I'm not familiar with many of the names here, but these look in pretty good shape to be honest.  Needless to say, I'm pretty happy.

I've heard of Lee Roy Jordan, and its good to get a Chiefs card, which is now my oldest Chiefs card displacing an early 80's Nick Lowery.

I'm not sure thy but I like the Tom Banks card.  Also a bit glad I got a miscut card like the Rich McGeorge one.  Also, while I can't confirm if its true, I'm glad I got a Brad Van Pelt card, Lucy's brother.

Ooh, a Mel Gray card, that will go into my Mizzou collection.  I know a little about Nick Buoniconti, so it was cool to get.  I'm not sure if I was happy or relieved to get a Bills running back card and it wasn't O.J. Simpson.

The last batch, and now you get to see the back.  Overall I was really happy with this purchase, and while I'm trying to pare down my collection of football cards, it was fun to find some cards from before I was even born.  Not bad considering just the football portion of the box was less than 4 cents a card.

So that wraps it up for tonight, I think I need to get back to sorting cards and get more of my collection updated so it might be a while before another post, but I still have a few other goodies to show off, so if I get bored sorting, I have a few posts I can write.  Thanks for reading and have a great night.

'Tis The Season... for Baseball and Wrestling

While a cold front is coming this week, its currently 75 or so outside, and that means Spring is here.  Which means baseball is back, and Wrestlemania is upon us.  Actually both have started (and I think 'Mania is finally over after a 94 hour show) and I'm behind on the times.  Honestly I didn't think about posting until I did a little cleaning and found something to display, then took a picture of and thought I'd share on here.  Really, I've already posted on twitter, but eh, why not do a blog while I'm somewhat in the mood.

I'm pretty sure most of this has been featured at one time or another, but I thought the layout is nice.  It reflects the Royals and MOST of their minor league teams.  The Northwest Arkansas Naturals jersey was a stadium giveaway I found at my local second hand store.  The caps are the Omaha Storm Chasers, Burlington Royals, and the Wilmington Blue Rocks.  Now if I can find an Idaho Falls Chukars, Lexington Legends, and the Arizona Fall League (not sure if they have caps), as well as a cap for the Naturals, I'd be set.  I try to rotate which one I wear out in public, but most of the time my Kansas City cap is worn most the time just because I'm trying to make it look a little worn.  People actually called me a bandwagon fan when I bought this one new in 2014.  If they only knew, plus I'm sure a lot of them aren't rooting for them right now.  At times I'm a bit weary of listening, but I still do.

So since I'm talking about baseball, I thought I'd show some cards I bought I guess more than a couple months ago at Savvy Seconds.

I saw the price and was curious.  It was behind their glass so no idea what was in it. Well... actually I knew what half of them were.  This is after I went through the box, and here's a different shot and how I saw the box at the store.

I saw some 1988 Donruss cards and some puzzle pieces.  However what caught my eye was the cards that looked miscut and old.  Turns out they weren't baseball, but they will be a future post, likely my next one.  Its a good one.  So let's have a lot of photos and show off what was in this box.
