I'm (Garage) Sale-ing AWAY!

I could ramble on for days.  But today I'm not.  I'm just going to show off some loot I grabbed at some garage sales today.  Most I didn't need, but it was all mostly cheap.

The Beaker bag was free at Savvy Seconds after I bought this thing I'll use as a card holder for 50 cents.

For a total of 25 cents (well 1.25 I bought something for my mom), I got these two glasses.  First is a Dolly Parton Dixie Stampeded boot plastic cup.  Also got a HUGE drinking mug.  It says Texas Training Mug on it.  One of the bigger mugs I've seen, comparable to a 64 ounce glass I guess, its massive.

4 caps equals 1 buck. They look like they've never been worn.  Of course the highlight is the Royals cap, however the MFA one is cool too.  The Slater Pharmacy is the town drugstore but it is the colors of the high school mascot, the Wildcats.  They are known to some as SlaWica (not sure on spelling but a mashup of Slater and Wildcats).

Same sale yielded this MFA Oil wall clock for 50 cents.  It is black and gold like Mizzou as MFA is headquartered in Columbia, MO I think (at least until they move to Moberly, MO, which is a long story).

One more thing at that sale too.

A set of four Boston Celtics World Champions glasses.  These set me back one dollar, but well worth it.  In total I didn't go to too many sales in Slater (the second town I hit), but still a nice score.  As I was leaving town I noticed they dedicated an outdoor basketball court to Joe Kleine.  I'll take pictures next time I go, but don't expect it to be too soon, its been close to 15 years since I was there last before today.

Another garage sale was in a town nearby called Arrow Rock.  A very historical town (by definition I guess its a village), its been probably close to 10 years since I last visited though its only less than 30 minutes from my house. Anyways, more pics, less talk.

A tin from the U.S. Centennial and... a used bottle of sunflower seeds?  I collect tins, so that was cool.  The bottle of seeds I liked because it looked like a baseball bat.  I'm not sure how I'll use it, but at the least its cool to display.

I got more at the sale.

WHAT?  C'MON PHIL, YOU BOUGHT GARBAGE!

Again, I like tins, and I can't find a date on the Hershey's can, but its not real new.  It is a tin, and I don't see any made like that anymore.  Followed by a tin (I guess, maybe sturdy aluminum) Coke bottle.  Crap, scanned the wrong side.  Anyways, its a bottle to commemorate the torch relay for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  I collect Coke stuff on occasion, so this fits in nicely.

As for the beer bottle...let me say this... I don't drink.  I've heard of this brand before but never seen a bottle so I got it.  As it turns out, it is readily available here, but this saves me from buying a beer I'd never drink.

I got more at the sale.

A bald eagle.  It's not a beanie baby I don't think, but still cool.  Also a bag.  I didn't need another bag, but I got it to put all the stuff in it that I bought.  I didn't realize until I got home it folded and zips up.

One more thing at the sale, you might have spotted already.

I've seen pics of these but never owned them.  These are Bamm Beano's... a knockoff/parody/sports moneygrab version of beanie babies.  Pictured from left to right (if you couldn't tell by their faces) are Ken Griffey Jr., Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa.  I really just wanted the Griff, but it was tough to pass the other two up.

So what was the damage for all this crap?  As the nice elderly man and then again his wife stated "everything is 15 cents of 7 for a $1".  Their math was a lot better than mine, so I offered two bucks for it all and they said grab a couple more things (which is why I did get the beer bottle).  Really not bad I think for all of it even though it really is crap for the most part.

Finally is the loot from the first sale of the day I went to... well second (the first were kinda rude, and lots of overpriced stuff that wasn't worth getting).

At this sale they had tons of stuff, but no prices on most of it, which kinda makes me want to leave quick.  I stayed and am glad I did.

Buttons!  I wasn't interested until I saw the 85 Series pin.  I asked how much and the guy said a quarter or 5 for a buck.  I got 15 total, and think I did good.  The slight downside is I think most are water damaged.  I say that because he set another box out that felt wet, which had me second guessing but I went ahead. A lot of Mizzou pins, and some Cardinals too (glad I scored the Ozzie pin, I passed on the Jack Clark).  Even a couple political pins for historical value.  The foot one was a joke one for my mom who has had a foot problem recently.  It was retaliation/joke for when my back went out and she got me a keychain of a spine.  The one Mizzou button I showed twice is really cool.  Its a musical button that plays one of Mizzou's fight songs (I think).  It doesn't look or sound water damaged, so that was worth it right there.  So $3 for them all.

In total I spent $11.25 total (forgot one other thing I got, I'll show later), so I can't complain.  I got other stuff today too, but I'll save it for now.  I miss going to garage sales, I hope to go to some more this summer though.  Thanks for reading and have a great night.

  1. I've been drinking Leinie's since about 1993 or 1994, I think! Leinie's Red was a favorite back in '94.
