Royal win on Listia

A few weeks ago, I went on a Listia shopping spree.  I bought quite a few items cheap, and still haven't shown them all off yet.  On Saturday I got a PWE in the mail from my latest win.  It was an Ian Kinsler Archive card, that I actually already had.  I haven't bought as much lately, but still have my eyes on some auctions I hope to win.

This post is about some Royals cards I won a while back.  I won these 9 cards for 356 points.  I knew I had one or two, but a couple I spotted I knew I didn't have so I bid anyways.

I don't think I have this Johnny Giavotella card (I really need to finish catalogging), so this will put me one step closer to completing the set.

I didn't need the George Brett card, but despite not caring for the red, I like this card.  I might try to get it autographed on day.  1990 was the year George won his final batting title (the only player to win a batting title in 3 different decades), so this would be a good candidate.

Since I was never a Bowman guy, I have never seen this card.  The name Jose Taveras sounds familiar, but I don't remember him playing for the Royals.  I just looked it up, and he never made it past A+ ball, playing for the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2000.

These next three were part of the reason I looked at these cards.  We'll start with the Daniel Cortes card.  I have some cards from the set, but I don't think they are Chrome ones.  Cortes never played in the majors for the Royals (which explains why the name isn't etched in my head), but did make the majors for the Mariners in 2010 and 2011.  He was involved in 2 trades involving Kansas City.  The first was when we traded Mike MacDougal to the Chicago White Sox.  At the time I hated that trade, but MacDougal wasn't the same after that so we didn't lose much in the trade.  3 years later, we sent Cortes and Derrick Saito to the Mariners to get Yuniesky Betancourt (one of a couple times we had him).

The next card is a Jarrod Dyson rookie card.  The card stood out to me, and I like Dyson, so it gave me some more interest in bidding.

The third card is Stephen Andrade.  When a guy only pitches in 4 games for 4.2 innings, its easy to forget him, like I did.  Since Upper Deck made cards for everybody, he got a card too.  His lone MLB season was 2006 which he had more lines in the Transactions pages then the box score.  In March he was claimed by the Royals off waivers from the Padres.  In early June, KC released him.  Less than a week later he signed with... the Padres.  He was became a free agent in October, and then in December he signed with another team he played for before- Tampa Bay (San Diego bought his contract from Tampa in December of 2005).

These last 3 cards are the reason I decided to bid on these.  Since I never see Gypsy Queen cards in stores and if I did, I would pass on them, I knew I needed this Mike Moustakas.  Since starting this blog I will admit GQ has grown on me. This card isn't as bad as the A&G cards.

The Hosmer card I never seen before.  I like the blue border of the card, it matches the team colors, and this is the card that finally made me decided to bid.  I may have to look into these cards more.

The final card is one that I figured I had, but might not have.  While Bo didn't play too long in Kansas City, he caused excitement. He reminded me of Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson.  Nobody really talks about his batting, its his speed and glove they remember.  This card is also nice because he's sporting the powder blue jersey.  Can't go wrong with that.

Tonight's game has a chance of being pushed back, so if they don't play, I hope this gave you a Royals fix.  Thanks for reading and have a great evening and night.

  1. Sweet card of Hoz. I hadn't seen that one.

Can't believe you don't think of Bo as a hitter. Sure he made a couple of superb plays in the field and obviously had some speed. But I am pretty sure that he still holds the mark for longest home run ever hit at the K. And Buck O'Neil compared the sound of his bat on ball to something he had only heard from Babe Ruth and Josh Gibson.

And you compare him to Dyson? Really??

Go Royals!! Can't wait to be at the K later today.

    1. First I have to admit that most of my memories of Bo are from fielding. He got injured in football about the time my memories of the Royals stick in my mind. I meant no disrespect in comparing him to Dyson. Obviously he was much more of a power hitter than Dyson or Cain. I do remember that long home run he hit.

I never heard that about Buck O'Neil. If he said that, then I really underestimated Bo. I do know he was an All-Star, so he was very valuable to the team.

I am jealous you are going to the game. If I had money I would try to work out a deal seeing if you could get me a program. Thanks for reading.
