Enough lolly-gagging on my part, its time for more of the Goodwin Champions box I pulled, this time with MINI'S!

They Are The (Goodwin) Champions Part 1

Recently I decided to buy a box of Goodwin Champions cards from 2012.  To be honest, I think I just wanted to get something, and they were discounted.  Today I thought I would show a few off and discuss.

How about some baseball?  Quite a mix here, which I can't decided which one I like best.  Ernie Banks is an early favorite, but the Donnie Baseball one stands out as well.

A nice mix of football too.  Though not as impressive to me, I am glad I pulled the Kaepernick card and I like how Herschel Walker is in his MMA pose.  Jim McMahon looks like somebody asked him to do the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Let's look at basketball for good measure.  As impressive as the baseball batch (if not more), I got some pretty good ones here.  Never had an Oscar Robertson or Elgin Baylor cards (at least if I remember), and pulling the Karl Malone card is nice too (and it looks like its based on his run with WCW no less, so extra points).  Thought the catch for me was the Jackie Stiles.  I was a big fan of Stiles during her college days, and even her high school days to be honest.  I have wanted this card for a while (and might have even bought one a while back, I need to check), but now for sure I have it.  I really wished her WNBA career was better than it turned out to be.  I might have even watched more if it did, and might even still watch it today.

Finally is some non-sport inclusions including an insert card.

It's not everyday you see cards of Explorers or Generals, but these are nice ones to pull.  I like the Stonewall Jackson card more than I thought I would.  I'm no history buff, so generally these don't interest me.  However, maybe I should look into these more.

The insert is of the USS Maine part of the Military Machines set.  It was a nice card to get, but not one I desired, though I would like to get the USS Missouri at one point.

That will wrap it up for now, but I pulled some more cards that I thought I'd post later since I haven't posted as much lately.  I have been working on other things, and not much to show on here, so once I have more I will be posting more.  Hoping to hit some garage sales this weekend and may even hit a card shop too, so if I do, I should have plenty to discuss.  Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Little Old, Little New

Today I don't have much to show, but still decided to do a Friday Night post to show I'm still fairly active on here.  I've gotten wrapped up in other stuff that just haven't been in the mood to do as many blogs as of late.  That should change soon.  Anyways, lets look at some pictures and discuss.

I recently won these cards on Listia.  I haven't been on there as much, and when I am I never spend a lot of time on it.  These were cheap, and I didn't have many from this set so I got them.  I think I like the Lowery cards best, but the main reason for getting these were for the Albert Lewis and Steve DeBerg cards.  I liked both of them when I first started watching and didn't have either of their cards so I wasn't much of a risk for me.  I still have no real plans to expand my Chiefs collection beyond getting some here and there, but this was a nice addition.

I also recently bought some 2015 Bowman cards.  I didn't plan on it, but I wanted to check out a Casey's convenience store that opened a while back and finally did.  It is a nice store, and to my surprise had packs of Bowman for sale, the first place I could find them.  Here are the results.

I got a Chris Sale card, so at least I knew somebody in the pack.  I also heard of Jake Lamb and Trevor May.  I know I heard the name Dilson before, so I guess I heard of all of them.  I'm not real sure if I like the design of these cards.  I'm not a fan of straight corners mixed with curved corners, and the Bowman logo seems a bit out of place, maybe it should have been under the team logo which doesn't stand out.

Here is the rest.  I'm not sure what I was expecting going in, but as far as the names, I'm cool with what I got.  I really could do without the Chrome cards though.  If I wanted Chrome I would buy a pack of them, I would have preferred more base set cards or an insert instead.  I guess I might try another pack in the future but I don't expect to buy too many of them.

Breaking in the new Dollar Tree

In a previous post I mentioned a new Dollar Tree opened near where I live.  I like the store and will probably be back there soon enough.  However, and I hope its just because they are new, their card selection is very minimal.  As a result I only bought 2 repacks, both from the only sports box they had- 30 cards from all-sports.  I usually pass on these, but figured if people bought a lot (or even any) they would expand the selection.  Anyways here is what I got from the two packs.  I didn't scan all of them, but about half from each.

Road Trip Relics

On Friday I had to run some errands and in the end went on a little road trip.  It was a little fun but didn't get much in terms of stuff to show.  I started the day off going to Savvy Seconds and came up almost empty handed- I did find a Lewis Black book which could be fun to read. From there we (my mom was with me) stopped by Pilot so I could get a drink.  One of the clerks I used to work with mentioned the new Dollar Tree in town just opened.  So we took a detour and went there.  I bought a couple repacks (which I'll show later) and thats about it.  We made our way down to the town of Versailles (its pronounced Ver-SAILS) and stopped at the Walmart (the whole reason for the trip to pick something up, it was the closest one with the item in stock).  Since it was early and it was Friday we decided to stop at the Open Air Flea Market.

What About The Game?

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I went to a Royals game.  And it was rained out... I have described almost everything about the day... EXCEPT THE GAME!  Well a rain delay prevented me from seeing it, but I got a ton of pics from around the stadium that day including the Hall of Fame.  If you follow me on Facebook you might have seen them, if not, you are in luck.

Things have been a bit hectic as of late and when they haven't been, I've just been lazy.  I realized I needed to do a new blog and have some random scans so I thought I would show them off.

I got home last week from the Royals game and got the mail.  To my surprise I had a package.  I was thinking if I had won something that wouldn't fit in an envelope or if something else I might have bartered for.  Then I saw the address said WV.  "Oh, man.  He got me something good and I have nothing for him."  That was my exact thought without opening the package.

After getting organized I finally opened the package and saw a note.

Cards from a rainy day

So my last blog described a Royals game I missed and what I got at Cargo Largo.  I mentioned I bought some cards there too.  Today I figured I would show the cards off.  Their selection wasn't the greatest and had a lot of dented blaster boxes just short of retail (I barely even touched those).  They had a variety and mostly newer stuff but we did spot a couple packs of I think 1988 Donruss.  In total I bought 3 things totaling $6.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE... CARGO LARGO?

Thursday was a fun filled day.  I went to the Kansas City Royals game against the Cleveland Indians.  As luck would have it, these were the same two teams I saw play last year.  All week the weather forecast looked less than great.  On the day of the game I looked at weather.com.  The forecast for my hometown: Rain almost all day.  The forecast for Kansas City: chances of rain beginning around 3-4 P.M.  So roughly about the 7th inning.  I was set, had my camera, some cash, my cool Royals shirt, and some Cracker Jack (I'm not eating anything at either Kansas City Stadium until I'm 100% sure they corrected ALL their cleaning violations.. well maybe a soda).

No rain as we leave, no rain as we get to Kauffmann Stadium.  We get in the stadium and I'm reminded of the seats... Section 431.  No big deal, I'll sit anywhere to be honest, but escalators come into play.  I'm not afraid of escalators, however, I am afraid of heights.  One set is fine, but then we had to take a second set.  Honestly, the height really wasn't the problem, it was the moving while going up.  Anyways we get to the top, and we find our section.

Dollar Tree packs a punch

On Saturday after I hit some garage sales, I hit up the Dollar Tree.  I've been hearing rumors for years that one is being built the next town over, but finally its coming true.  I have seriously thought of getting a job there, and I think I might apply.  Anyways, for today's blog I will show some cards I got from repacks.

Instead of buying current cards, I just got 5 repacks because you get more cards.  I also have doubts I'd pull a good card from 2015 Donruss or Topps at Dollar Tree and so 4 cards for a buck isn't worth it.  30 cards for a buck seems like a better deal.

I'm (Garage) Sale-ing AWAY!

I could ramble on for days.  But today I'm not.  I'm just going to show off some loot I grabbed at some garage sales today.  Most I didn't need, but it was all mostly cheap.

The Beaker bag was free at Savvy Seconds after I bought this thing I'll use as a card holder for 50 cents.

Final batch from Just Commons

I could have put these last two posts together, but felt it was better to spread it out.  At any rate, here is the final batch of cards I got from Just Commons.  After processing took a week, it shipped pretty fast I thought, faster than normal.  Also on the plus side is no mistakes, this is the second straight big package where they didn't send me the wrong card. Anyways, here they are.

Time for another JustCommons package

If I have one complaint about Just Commons, its that it takes a while for them to process.  For me it usually takes a week before they finally ship.  I'm fine with it most of the time, but in this instance I was under a deadline.  As I mentioned yesterday, it was my friends birthday and one thing he was looking for was the complete set of the 2015 First Pitch cards.  He is like me, we don't like spending a lot for cards.  I found some complete sets for $10 and that was too much I thought.  Long story short, through some work I found all the cards for under half that.  The last 3 I needed were in this package.  As it turns out, I didn't scan them, but I did scan the rest of what I got.  Here are the first batch.

What it Was, Was Friendship (and still is)

I have recently heard a lot of people say after you turn 30 you don't have a best friend.  You just have friends.  I can tell you, that is a lie. I have a best friend, and today is his birthday.  This post is dedicated to him, but I still think everyone might enjoy it.

It all started in high school.  In a town of less then 1,000 people, you know everyone and chances are you will have a class or two with someone.  That was the case as we both had chorus class together.  It was basically a cut class for us, but the teacher was getting burnt out, and we spent a lot of time watching Disney movies in class.  We had interacted before, but can't remember in what.  We bonded over music and movies, and we still do to this day.

After we graduated we lived across from each other and would hang out, and then we started going to concerts together.  I'm trying to think of the first concert we attended together, but can't.  I think it might have been a group called The Anniversary, but I could be wrong.

Anyways to move the story along, in 2008, we were both into Ebay, and we came across some Mizzou tickets.  We went to a couple games.  This is highlights of the first game we went to.

We got to see Colin Kaepernick play for Nevada.  As for Mizzou, here is a list of some of the players we got to see:

What a list. Just one game!

Since that time, we have been to many more games, and I've had a blast every time.  Even the time we was at Homecoming and Texas killed us.

To be quite honest, in 2008, I was a little burnt out of sports.  It started a few years earlier, but I just wasn't into it.  This sparked a resurgence of my love for sports.  The funny thing is that I am more of a fan of the Mizzou basketball team and he likes football more.

We've gone to many more events since then including APFL and later CPIFL (indoor football leagues), Kansas City Chiefs games, and Kansas City Royals (including one next month).  I tried getting him into blogging which he has, with his Talkin' Truman blog, but he's been busy lately and haven't had time to update.  I can't wait until he blogs next as even though he tells me most of the stuff he gets, his has a massive Mizzou collection, and I love seeing what else he gets.

I gave him his gift earlier today (including a pack of Rocketeer cards), but also told him I made some custom cards he would enjoy.  Here they are as I explain why I made them.

This first one isn't really for him, but I wanted to show it off.  Atiyyah Ellison played for Mizzou before we started going to games, but he now lives around the Mid-Missouri area where he is an assistant coaches for one of the high school football teams.  I've seen him a few times, but need to get a few cards signed.  I'd like to make this card and have it signed one day too.

Jaron Baston was one of our favorite players the first years we went to games.  He was very outgoing and fun to watch, even on the sidelines.  I usually show my friends the cards I make before I post them but I just make this today so this is new to him, including the design.  I was hoping to find an action photo, but no luck this morning.

This one I like a lot.  Marcus James is another player who played before we went to games, but he played for the Mid-Missouri Outlaws, the aforementioned APFL and CPIFL football team.  We met him a few times, and he was very nice.  He is a teacher and a coach at one of the Columbia schools as well.  I was really surprised I found a photo of his Mizzou days, and a decade after he graduated, he still holds a record on the football team (I forgot which one, I think its a special teams record).

In addition to being a Mizzou fan, my friend is also a big fan of Nolan Ryan.  He has always been a fan.  So since i didn't give him any Nolan cards, I thought I'd make one.

Not the same design as the 2015 First Pitch cards, but he liked the First Pitch cards, so I got him that set.  I thought this would have fit in just as well, but I'm having a tough time using that design.  So this will have to do.

Most people may have thought I'd use a different photo.  GOTCHA!  Here is a story about that famous fight.

It's hard to believe that people are graduating college this year who weren't alive when this happened.

So I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to the Side-Splitton Jason Litton!  It's been a wild ride and I can't wait to have more fun!

A Day Late and a Post Short

So yesterday I screwed up.  For whatever reason I thought it was Wednesday and so I made a title called "Random Wednesday..." .  It wasn't until two hours later I realized the mistake.  No need to fix it, so let's just move on.

I've been stewing for the last week about the Royals.  I love my team very much, and I will defend them to almost the point of no return.  However, after I prayed that things cooled down with the Oakland and KC series, tempers flared again last night.  I haven't watched a game live all year, but let me just blow off some steam.  For allowing me to do this, I will debut some new cards I made recently, all Royals.

Random Wednesdays: Books and odd cards

I have a few pictures/scans to show off, none warranting their own post, but worthy enough to be mentioned.

I subscribe to Bloomberg Businessweek (not much longer, but still), and sometimes they mention sports.  I really like the magazine, and I might renew it, its free, but trying to cut back on magazines for a while.  At my peak I was getting 21 or more magazines, 95% were free ones.  Once I cut them all down I'll decide which ones I'd like to get again.  Anyways, here was a recent cover of their magazine.

Going Back To My Happy Place

I had a fun weekend, I'm not going to deny it.  It was the most fun I've had in a while.  However, I'm not in a happy place.  It really all began on Opening Day.  Since Opening Day, I have not seen one live Royals game on TV, and I'm not real mad about it.  As long as I have it on the radio, I'm cool.  However, the problem is my Royals radio affiliate has been lackluster. First and foremost, they haven't played any day games on their FM station (all of them have been AM, and I can't get them).  That means all the Sunday games, Opening Day, and a couple weekday games.  Not to mention ones I've missed because of not being home.  I have compensated by deciding to listen to more Minor League games this year.  I'm trying to catch two a week, no matter what team, any affiliate.  Last week I listened to 5 games in one day (2 full, 3 part), and two more earlier in the week.

This weekend I missed Saturday's and Sunday's Royals games.  Now I'm already mad, but to pile it on, if you missed it, Oakland and Kansas City decided to get into a pissing match.  It doesn't matter what side you are on, it's time to move on.  It already happened, they meet again in June, we'll see what happens then.  However, fans and players, and even the media can't get over it.  I am just tired of hearing about it.  So its time to go to my happy place to make me feel better.  I will combine it with some stuff I got on Saturday.

I won this card on Listia, I got it a few days ago with another card I'll show later.  Not a bad card, a Miss USA!  That makes me a bit more happy.
